Commercial Lines Department Manager

Lead the day-to-day operations of a large Commercial Lines Insurance Agency. Participate in and help drive the Agency’s strategic initiatives of profitable growth and account retention. Engage in the training, development, and performance of the commercial lines and marketing teams.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Ensure that departmental objectives are in alignment with overall business strategies and objectives.

  • Drive business systems and process improvement to ensure efficient, consistent and excellent client service.

  • Ensure that processes, procedures, training and allocation of resources are available and provided to all department employees.

  • Encourage innovative learning and development techniques.

  • Create an open, collaborative environment with supportive leadership.

  • Manage the placement process for the Commercial Lines and Marketing teams.

  • Be a resource for technical expertise, sharing with the staff as needed.

  • Coordinate with the Sales team in the placement of new business with carriers to maximize contingency income while providing for client’s protection and security.

  • Motivate and train the staff to cross sell and account round their book of accounts.

  • Participate in carrier meetings to keep current on appetite, insurance offerings and programs.

  • Monitor department, retention activity and results.

  • Hire talent, create career development paths, conduct performance feedback, and manage performance improvement plans.

 

Required skills and qualifications:

  • Minimum 5+ years of commercial insurance experience with broad knowledge and understanding of commercial lines coverage and markets.

  • Prior senior level leadership responsibility.
    Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.

  • Well organized and able to and prioritize workflow to completion of tasks

  • Must be able to work collaboratively in a team environment to make sure service needs are met

  • Analytical, problem solving and conflict resolution skills

  • Attention to detail and creativity valued as key attributes

  • Proficient in Sagitta/AMS360 and Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)

  • Property & Casualty license required

  • Professional Insurance designations a plus

 

Compensation:

Commensurate with experience. Includes base salary plus incentives, full suite of benefits including medical, dental, vision & 401K.
